About 2 years ago, I randomly stumbled into a bookstore in Tokyo and found a whole flipbook section right next to the cashier. It felt like when you're about to check out at the supermarket, you grab a piece of bubble gum. It's something you rarely see in Hong Kong. It made me wonder if that scene could happen in Hong Kong bookstores. What if i created my own flipbook?

This experience brought back memories of my first flipbook, which i recently took it out of a dusty box. It was created in 2014 during an animation workshop, and at that time I was completely new to animation. Creating that flipbook felt like being a kid again, doodling and flipping through the pages, without caring about technique or criticism in my mind. No fancy plugins, no expensive software or hardware - just me, a pen, and a simple notebook.

I decided to go back to where it began - to mess around with paper and create animation through a new lens. That's why 'Not My First Flipbook' was born.

There were many trials and errors behind this flipbook series, starting with a dummy flipbook made out of A4 paper, finding the right dimensions and materials for flipping, and binding methods. Lots of hard work was poured into this project. ‘START WITH A CUBE’ & ‘NAVIGATING’ are my debut products. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
